Text

In Berlin during the 1970s a generation of artists developed, who embarked on a critical debate with social reality and Germany's suppressed National Socialist past.

In his works Ulrich Baehr employs components from media images, which he stages as objects within space. In his motif for the image-object “A Friend to Children” he used photographs of Adolf Hitler, Charles de Gaulle and Josef Stalin. They show the politicians in almost identical poses, bending down to speak with children. By reducing the depiction to this pose, Baehr discloses it as part of the system-crossing vocabulary with which power is staged in the media.
