The entrance to the museum is formed by a white wall-structure – a freestanding wall measuring eleven by five meters, stretching to the Alte Jakobstraße, above the true entry foyer an open museum space. This allows one to sense the proportions and dimensions of the enormous museum hall that lies behind the office buildings in front. The proportions of the visible parts of the architecture are derived from a grid that is only noticeable in the floor plans. Inspired by this organizing concept the artist decided to paint the entire exterior of the building in alternating stripes of brilliant white and neutral grey. This is especially noticeable on the back of the museum, and signals the location of the museum to people walking along the Oranienstraße.
