Art in Berlin 1880 – 1980

A circuit of the exhibition shows some of the collection’s key works from the genres of painting, graphic art, sculpture, photography and architecture. It leads visitors from the conservative art taste of the late 19th century Wilhelmine era to socially critical, rebellious positions of the 1960s and 1970s.

The chronological presentation of works reflects the collection’s interdisciplinary orientation and creates exciting dialogues between different artistic styles: art around 1900, Expressionism, the Eastern European avant-garde, New Objectivity, art in the National Socialist period, the new beginning after 1945, and positions of post-war art in East and West Berlin.
